About the Practice:
This is a well-established, thriving independent small animal practice with a loyal and steadily growing client base. The practice prides itself on delivering high-quality, personalised care. The team includes experienced veterinary nurses, long-serving receptionists, and a dedicated principal vet. As the caseload increases, the practice is now seeking a capable and enthusiastic Veterinary Surgeon to join their close-knit and supportive team.

The Role:
This is a varied role involving both consulting and operating, set within a structured four-day work week with Wednesdays off. The successful candidate will join a team that currently includes excellent locums (a married couple) who are preparing to launch their own practice, creating the need for a permanent addition.

Schedule Details:

Start Time: 9:00 AM (patients admitted by nurses from 8:00 AM)

Last Appointment: 5:30 PM (occasional 5:40 PM in emergencies)

Wednesdays: Guaranteed day off

Mondays & Fridays: Assisting with surgery and consults

Tuesdays: Sole charge, with the principal vet working remotely on Animal Health Certificates

Thursdays: Shared day with the opportunity for surgical work, and coverage of evening consultations

Evening Surgery: Shared, with adequate break times to ensure work-life balance

Candidate Requirements:
The ideal candidate will be:

An experienced vet with a minimum of 5 years in practice

Confident with sole charge, general surgery, and consultations

Skilled in emergency & critical care (ECC) and comfortable with out-of-hours scenarios

An excellent communicator with a compassionate client manner

A true team player with a positive, can-do attitude

Ideally holding or working towards an RCVS Certificate in soft tissue surgery, orthopaedics, or imaging (though not essential)

Experience with diagnostics and surgical procedures is highly valued. While the practice currently works with visiting orthopaedic and imaging specialists, any additional in-house expertise would be a strong asset.

Why This Practice?
Independent Ownership: A supportive, non-corporate environment focused on quality care

Experienced Team: Long-standing, capable nurses and receptionists provide excellent support

Engaged Client Base: Loyal clients who are invested in their pets care

Work-Life Balance: Structured four-day work week with Wednesdays off and realistic scheduling

Development Encouraged: Opportunities to grow and use additional skills or certificates
