Job Description (HL30001)

My client is seeking an experienced small animal veterinarian to join their team and help them continue providing their community with an on-site 24-hour emergency service. They are proud to be the only local practice still offering this level of round-the-clock care. One of the team vets also participates in daytime work, as they appreciate the continuity of care for their patients. The on-call vet is always supported by an experienced RVN or SVN, who triages all calls received through the answering service.

The incoming vet will join a team with diverse experience, including some vets dedicated exclusively to night work. This role is available as a replacement for a vet departing for personal reasons, and the ideal candidate would be open to both day and night shifts. However, night-only blocks or other configurations will also be considered.

My clients practice is a friendly, independent, family-run clinic located in Worcestershire. Owners and vets are committed to creating a supportive environment where team members can flourish, pursue areas of interest, and build confidence with full support. With a clinical team of 6 vets, 7 RVNs, 1 SVN, 1 VCA, and 1 ANA, as well as an efficient admin and reception team, the practice is a valued part of the local community.

They are among the first UK practices to earn a dog-friendly certification from the Dogs Trust/BVBA Dog-Friendly Clinic scheme, are fear-free accredited, hold Gold ISFM cat-friendly status, and have Silver RWAF rabbit-friendly status, along with RCVS accreditation. Their purpose-built facility includes separate dog and cat wards, four consulting rooms, digital x-ray (including dental), high-quality ultrasound with Doppler, in-house lab, endoscope, optic loop, Tonovet pen, cautery, and laser therapy.

Role Structure: The vets work a four-day week with one early finish and share Saturday morning consults on a 1:4 rota (9 am – 12:30 pm). Flexible, part-time arrangements are also available. Although there are no routine out-of-hours requirements, interested vets can join the OOH rota for emergency care.

Each day, two vets consult, one vet operates, and another oversees medical cases and inpatients while supporting surgery or preparation areas as needed. Designated operating days are scheduled weekly, ensuring ample time for complex cases with support from the team.

Benefits:

Salary: £50,000 – £75,000, depending on experience and hours
6 weeks holiday, plus bank holidays
Generous CPD allowance, with certificate funding and support
RCVS, VDS, and BSAVA fees covered
Employee assistance program
Company pension, employee discounts, and on-site parking
If you know of any qualified candidates who would be passionate about providing exceptional animal care and meet the experience requirements, please feel free to reach out.
