Lecturer / Surgeon in Small Animal Surgery – Scotland
Full-time, Permanent (Part-time considered)
Competitive salary, dependent on experience
Potential for Professorial appointment
Accommodation support and relocation package available

An exciting opportunity has arisen with our client, a leading small animal veterinary institution in Scotland, for an experienced and passionate Small Animal Surgeon to join their team in a Lecturer role.

This is a rare chance to become part of a forward-thinking, well-equipped referral hospital that supports academic development, excellent clinical standards, and work-life balance.

The Role
This position would suit a residency-trained surgeon (soft tissue or orthopaedics) who is either early in their post-residency career or already experienced. Candidates with around two years of experience are welcome to apply, but there is also scope for this post to be elevated to a Senior Lecturer or Professor-level role for a published, diplomate-level candidate with strong academic contributions.

You’ll contribute to a varied caseload, mentor junior staff, and participate in shaping the next generation of veterinary professionals through clinical teaching and supervision. There is no requirement for board certification, but residency completion and confidence in surgical caseloads is essential.

This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys the balance of clinical practice and academic life but doesn’t necessarily want the pressures of completing a diploma. The environment is supportive, with excellent nursing, imaging, anaesthesia, and surgical teams in place.

Key Responsibilities
Provide clinical and surgical services across a busy small animal caseload.

Deliver hands-on teaching and support to veterinary undergraduates and interns/residents.

Contribute to clinical case discussions, rounds, and teaching seminars.

Engage in clinical development, research, or clinical scholarship, depending on your interests.

Help shape clinical protocols and quality improvement projects within the hospital.

Candidate Profile
Essential:

Veterinary degree eligible for MRCVS registration.

Completion of a recognised surgical residency programme – ECVS etc

Confident in managing complex surgical cases independently.

Passion for teaching and mentoring others in a clinical setting.

Desirable:

Research publications or an interest in developing an academic career.

Previous lecturing or clinical supervision experience.

Experience working in a university or referral setting.

What’s on Offer
Competitive salary commensurate with experience (up to Professorial level for the right candidate) – very flexible so please get in touch for an initial direct call

Full-time role with flexible working and part-time considered.

20% pension

6+ weeks annual leave plus bank holidays.

CPD allowance and support for further academic development.

Relocation package and assistance with accommodation.

A collaborative, supportive team culture in a stunning Scottish location.
