Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon
Permanent | Full-Time | South Yorkshire
Salary: £60,000–£80,000 DOE

We are working with a family-run, proudly independent veterinary practice in South Yorkshire that is seeking a Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join their established and highly supportive team on a permanent, full-time basis.

This opportunity is ideally suited to a vet with approximately 1–5 years’ UK small animal experience who is keen to further develop both medical and surgical skills within a genuinely friendly, collaborative, and non-corporate environment.

You will be joining a large and experienced veterinary team, including multiple certificate holders, where teaching, mentoring, and shared learning are embedded into the day-to-day culture. Clinical support is readily available, and professional development is actively encouraged at all levels.

All surgical and hospitalised cases are managed from a fully equipped main hospital, offering multiple operating theatres and a consistently high and varied surgical caseload. Each vet benefits from dedicated daily operating time, ensuring excellent exposure and the opportunity to rapidly expand surgical confidence, with senior support always on hand. The wider group also includes several consulting-only branch practices with full nurse assistance.

Facilities include modern diagnostics, advanced surgical capability, air-conditioned sites throughout, and an in-house hydrotherapy and physiotherapy service. The nursing and support team is large, skilled, and proactive, allowing vets to focus on clinical excellence and client care.

Work–life balance is a genuine priority and is supported by:
Set 2-hour lunch break every day
Alternating 4- and 5-day working weeks
Average 7.5-hour working day
One weekend day (Saturday or Sunday) every 5 weeks
No night emergencies

Package includes:
Salary of £60,000–£80,000, dependent on experience
Six weeks’ holiday plus bank holidays (with one exception)
£3,000 CPD allowance

Requirements:

1–5 years’ recent UK small animal practice experience

Confidence in routine consultations and basic surgery

A team-focused, enthusiastic approach with a desire to continue learning
